How to get
to Favignana

Hydrofoils and ferries from Trapani and Marsala, the nearest airports and our tips for planning the trip with no worries.

Favignana can only be reached by sea. No bridge, no airport on the island: you set off from the Trapani coast and in just over half an hour you are already in the heart of the Egadi Islands.

There are two departure ports: Trapani, the main one, connected all year round and with the most departures, and Marsala, a handy alternative served by hydrofoils only. From both, the crossing takes around half an hour on average.

Two operators run the connections: Liberty Lines, with its fast hydrofoils, and Siremar, with ferries that also carry vehicles. In summer departures are frequent, spread from early morning until evening.

Hydrofoil or ferry?

The hydrofoil is the most convenient choice for most travellers: it connects Trapani to Favignana in about 30-40 minutes and Marsala in around half an hour, with many crossings a day — up to about twenty in high season. It carries passengers and luggage only, not vehicles.

The ferry, run by Siremar and departing only from Trapani, is slower — about an hour — and less frequent, with just a few crossings a day. Its only advantage: it carries cars, scooters and motorbikes.

Our advice is simple: unless you have a particular need, take the hydrofoil and leave the car on the mainland. Favignana is small and flat, and bringing a car is almost always more of a burden than a benefit — we explain why further down.

Where you leave from
and how long it takes

From Trapani by hydrofoil

The fastest and most frequent way

About 30-40 minutes of sailing, with crossings throughout the day. It is the most used connection to reach the island, running all year round.

From Trapani by ferry

For those who must bring a vehicle

About one hour crossing, with just a few departures a day. The only option if you want to bring a car or scooter to the island.

From Marsala by hydrofoil

The handy alternative from the south

About 30 minutes, with a few crossings a day. Convenient if you arrive from the Marsala area or from Palermo airport coming up from the south.

The tickets

Better in advance

Buy them online on the Liberty Lines and Siremar websites, or at the port ticket offices. In July and August it is wise to book a few days ahead.

In just over half an hour you go from the mainland to the silence of the Egadi.

How to reach
the ports

By air. The nearest airport is Trapani-Birgi (Vincenzo Florio), about fifteen kilometres from the port: you get there in 15-25 minutes by taxi or shuttle bus, or by renting a car. Alternatively, Palermo airport (Falcone-Borsellino) is about an hour and a half to two hours away, with direct buses to Trapani.

By car. Trapani is connected by the A29 motorway to Palermo and Mazara del Vallo. Near the port you will find several car parks to leave the car for your whole stay; in summer some offer a shuttle service to the boarding points.

By train. Trapani station is a few minutes' walk from the departure quay, handy for those arriving from Palermo along the coast.

Should you bring a car? Hardly ever. Favignana is small and flat: every beach is 10-20 minutes away by bike or e-bike, and in summer the town centre is largely a limited-traffic zone. Leave the car in Trapani, travel light by hydrofoil and get around the island on two wheels. For our guests, we take care of arranging bikes, e-bikes and the transfer from the port.
