Favignana
with children

Sandy beaches with shallow water, a flat island and few cars: why Favignana is a perfect destination for a family holiday.

Favignana is an island made for children. Flat, compact and with the sea just minutes from anywhere: here little ones can play on the beach, ride a bike and discover nature at an easy pace.

Its flat profile and short distances make it easy to get around by bike, even with a child seat for the little ones. In summer the centre is closed to traffic, so the streets stay quiet and safe. And on the eastern side of the island the sea offers sandy beaches with shallow water, where children can swim safely.

Add to this the slow pace of a small island: a lively but human-scale town, with gelato shops, granita and all the essential services within a few minutes' walk. Everything you need for a relaxed family holiday.

An island made
for children

It's flat. No demanding climbs: you get around easily by bike, with a child seat for the little ones. Walks in town are simple and within everyone's reach too.

During the summer the whole town centre is pedestrian-only. The streets are quiet, an added bonus when travelling with children.

The sea is gentle. On the eastern side the beaches are sandy, with a shallow, gradual entry into the water and clear seabeds: ideal for first swims and for playing at the shore.

The beaches
for the little ones

Lido Burrone

The family beach

The most child-friendly: fine sand, shallow clear water and a lido with services, sunbeds and a refreshment point. Convenient and easily reached from town.

Cala Azzurra

White sand and turquoise water

One of the island's fine-sand beaches, in the south-eastern area near Lido Burrone and Punta Marsala. Shallow, clear, turquoise water, sheltered and with a gradual entry: perfect for the little ones.

Calamoni

Quiet, on the south side

A stretch of low, shallow coast, more secluded. Great for a quiet day, away from the busier beaches.

The rocky coves

Better with older kids

Cala Rossa and Bue Marino are among the island's most beautiful, but with rocks, dives and deep water: spectacular for teenagers and adults, less suited to small children.

Sand, shallow water and plenty of space to play: the sea at Favignana is made for the little ones.

Getting around and what to do
with children

By bike. It's the loveliest way to experience the island. Several rental shops in town offer bikes with child seats and e-bikes for parents: you reach beaches and coves pedalling on the flat, along quiet roads.

A boat trip. Sailing around the island by boat or dinghy is an adventure for the whole family: you cruise along the coast and stop in the coves for a swim and a little snorkelling in the calm water.

The Florio Tuna Fishery. On windy days or for a break from the sun, the museum of the former Florio plant is an indoor stop that intrigues children too, among vast halls, boats and the history of tuna fishing. Reduced ticket for the youngest.

☀️

What to pack. There's little natural shade on the beaches: bring a beach umbrella, hats and high-protection sunscreen. In town you'll find a pharmacy, supermarkets and a medical first-aid point. A stroller is fine in the centre, but for the coves and unpaved stretches a baby carrier or child-carrier backpack is more practical.
